BEING GOLLUM...

Being Gollum...

Masked by latex,
Loose on face, eye-holes awry,
Restricting sight;

Clothed in habit,
Hung on body, waist roped,
Knotting tight;

Armed with fish,
Crafted from rubber, randomly wafting,
Simulating fight...

Crouched, dithering,
Speech withering
To gravelly whispers
Of threat;
Slouched, mumbling,
Curses grumbling
To incoherent whispers
Of regret...

Teaching at Sarehole Mill, Birmingham, dressed as JRR Tolkien’s character, Gollum.
Pupils were terrified but amused, especially as I waved a rubber fish about quite regularly…
