AFC BINLEY'S EDWIN GREAVES REPORTS ON HIS TEAM'S 2-0 WIN v SHILTON...

Bedworth Nursing Cup:
Round 2:
 AFC Binley 2-0 Shilton...

"After having our game called off last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch I was forced to make several changes because of players' injuries and work commitments, a manager's nightmare after beating the top of the league team. However that is a problem every manager has to deal with...

Out were Jordan Campbell, Daniel Vincent, Curtis Smallwood, Justin Lang and Jaydon Bickley, who were replaced by Ryan Oldham, Ben Ryder, Travis Smallwood, Steven O'Sullivan, with Aaron Laming and Kyle Metcalfe promoted to the starting line-up.
The game could not have have got off to a better start for us, as playing downhill we had Shilton on the back foot from the first whistle.

We controlled the game and the lads in midfield were doing an excellent job.
Chances was created and missed by us as Shilton struggled to cope.

Fabian Spence hit a post with a shot, before later scoring after some good work from Tyler Morgan: 1-0.
We continued to dominate the 1st half but failed to add to our lead.

Half-time: 1-0.

The 2nd half was a much closer affair although we still had the better clear cut chances. Tyler Morgan headed against the crossbar after a good cross from Andy Godfrey and Blake Kassar had a couple of shots which went wide.

In the 79th minute we finally got our 2nd goal when Fabian Spence and Blake Kassar linked up well before Blake passed to Kyle Metcalfe who cut inside to score his first goal of the season: 2-0.

Shilton responded straight away and had us under more pressure and almost got themselves back into the game when Ryan Oldham was forced to make an important save from a header.
Shilton pushed hard and had us defending until the end of the game but there were no more goals.
AFTER KYLE METCALFE'S GOAL...

Full-time: 2-0.

In summing up this game:

It's always nice to win games of football but it's even nicer when your opposition are from a higher division and they take the time after the game to say nice things about your team and the players.
Shilton were very complimentary and I wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.

As for us, we played very well in the 1st half but were wasteful in front of goal.
The 2nd half was more even and we always needed that 2nd goal as Shilton pushed us hard but it eventually came and the victory was ours.
Our season won't be judged on cup games but it's nice to be in the next round.

Up next for us is a Foleshill Charity Cup Round 2 game at home to Rugby FC, who are top of Alliance Division 1.
Another tough draw for us but over 90 minutes anything can happen and I know one thing: we will always try our best..."

Edwin Greaves, Manager,
AFC Binley.
