Heracles Of Owen Street…
(Coalville Town, November 2009…)
Club brandished in a raised right arm,
Threateningly,
Daring the enemy,
Flaunting his wrath
As lion-skin, draped over left forearm
Shimmered in Corinth’s
Glaring sunlight
And eyes,
Staring,
Instilled the fear of Zeus
Into the minds of antagonists…
Fists clenched on two thrusting, pumping arms,
Menacingly,
Holding off defenders,
Barging his route
As Ravens-jersey, strained on flexed arms
Flashes in Coalville’s
Adequate floodlight
And eyes,
Glaring,
Instilled the trepidation of Defeat
Into the minds of protagonists…
Pete Ray
Jermaine Gordon, like Hercules, took the battle to the foe, leading from the front…
His performance for Coalville in a 3-0 win against Alvechurch, before 45 spectators, freed Martin Thompson to cause more peripheral damage but I couldn’t help thinking of the ancient Greeks…
