Bristol Barracuda & The One-Legged Rook(ie)...

Bristol Barracuda & The One-Legged Rook(ie)...

At Taunton Deane motorway services,
I needed a second look,
For scavenging for scraps in the car-park
Was a grey-beaked, one-legged Rook…

Oddly though, it hopped gamely about
And fittingly won the foraging race
Between the yellow painted lines on the tarmac,
Of a disabled parking space…

Inside the building, men caroused about
For fast food, coffee and a pee:
Big men, heavy men, plus athletic specimens
And I wondered who they could be…

Turned out they were University students,
Stripped of their Grid Iron kits:
Namely the Bristol Barracuda, en route
To lose to the Plymouth Blitz…

True story, yesterday...
Didn’t get a picture of the Rook, nor of the Barracuda, who seemed decent guys, although Plymouth edged them out 28-24, I believe.

As a Kansas City Chiefs fan, I was amazed to see the guys, but pleased that the game endures in the UK…

Odd that a new player is known as a ‘rookie’ too...
