'GONDOLAS MOORED': A POEM FROM JENNIFER DENNIS' ARTWORK...

 Gondolas Moored

Canal of deep green chastises 

Gondolas, moored at roughly hewn posts,

Like gnarled bread sticks hardened,

Or ancient saplings, stripped

And seemingly stranded by a murky, sinewy flood…


Formidable Istrian stone walls rise,

Stained by pallid, medieval ghosts,

And the fleet, with bows like claws sharpened,

Float redundant, by sodden ropes gripped,

Whilst myriad hues of flowers pierce the somnolent mood…
