SHAM ALAM, THE PROMOTED GNP SPORTS' QUIET GAFFER HAS SEEN A 4-2 WIN v CHELMSLEY TOWN, A 2-0 DEFEAT AT COVENTRY SPHINX & A 1-2 REVERSE TO STUDLEY IN PRE-SEASON SO FAR.
HE PENNED THE FOLLOWING THOUGHTS FOR THE MOWDOG'S BLOG:
"From the first three pre-season matches, I’ve seen an improvement in all aspects of the game that I wanted to see, including the fitness levels and the intensity. It has been good to see the passing patterns and the shape that we have been working on in training settling in too. I'm delighted with the players who are working extremely hard since we started pre-season. The players know that we are not where we need to be for when the season starts but we are heading in the right direction.
I thought Studley were the better side for some parts of the first-half and we struggled to get to terms with their strengths. They will no doubt will be challenging at the top of Division 1 with Dan Carter, Alfie Bloomer and the other winger in the team. Overall, the first-half was sloppy from us and we got a bit loose in our shape against them but come the second-half we were the better side and dominated. If we were able to get past Boldmere St Michaels in the first round of the FA Vase, I think the Studley management team may be in for a shock as to what will await them in the next round.
The Coventry Sphinx game came too early for us but we knew that at the time; we did have a game booked in to start pre-season with, however due to the fantastic England success we suffered by missing out on a less competitive fixture to start with. However from my point of view it was good because the loss exposed things straight away compared to playing 2 or 3 easier games and it taking longer to recognise the areas we needed to be better in. We enter the final week of our pre-season games now with Coventry United, Folly Lane and NKF Burbage awaiting us.
Yours in football..."
