DISTINCTLY INDISTINCT & INCIDENTAL... (My new poem about Terence Blanchard's fine music for the current Perry Mason series on HBO...)

 Distinctly Indistinct & Incidental…

(The effects of Terence Blanchard’s trumpet…)

Indistinct

Faint, frantic brass,

Barely audible,

But dream-like

Haunts the periphery

Of the music, a trumpet’s aura.

Its incidental, lurking effects seem disturbing

And the frustration becomes palpable,

As if I am somehow excluded,

Distinctly…

Indistinct

Faint, toxic brass,

Beautifully audible,

But soul-like

Captivates the periphery

Of my hearing, an emotional aura.

Its incidental, shifting lilt becomes alluring

And the fascination seems inexplicable,

As if I am somehow deluded,

Distinctly…

Indistinct

Faint panic, alas,

Scarcely audible,

But nightmare-like,

Blurs the periphery

Of a shell-hole’s deathly aura.

Its incidental, fleeting misery seems degrading

And the fragmentation becomes pitiful,

As if I am somehow denuded,

Distinctly…

Listening to the endearing, haunting trumpet of Terence Blanchard, during episodes of Perry Mason on Sky Atlantic TV…

It’s as if one is somehow disconnected from the sound, dream-like, yet soulful but strangely pleasant…

It is as if I had become stranded in a WW1 shell-hole at the Somme, as war sounds drifted about and life was waning, whilst hell was tearing at my soul…
