The Water Carrier…
Morning. Drizzle falling upon the deserted lane.
Setts like black holes contrasted glaringly
With dank foliage, luscious and green
And the startling hue of bluebells scattered
About. Amid emerald scrub their blue stain
Gleamed, their plight exposed glaringly,
Just spring flowers unmistakeable and serene
Within a copse where nature and wildlife mattered…
The water I carried replenished two bowls lying around,
Which leaves and dirt had infiltrated and discoloured.
Though nothing moved upon the undulating, sodden ground,
Badger life lurked below, silent and undiscovered…
