The Health Warning…
Like in an artist’s sketch of the Great Fire
Of London, Mousehole’s rooftops are shrouded
In smoke from myriad chimney stacks,
As if the entire village has been engulfed by a flameless
Conflagration.
Like spectators, the short trousered and booted lads admire
The bustling harbour, with fishing boats crowded,
Posed by the photographer, leaning and relaxed,
Whilst the cramped quay huddles in the smog’s timeless
Inundation…

The lads watch as fishermen go about their business on working vessels but the chimney smoke from the houses around the quay seems not to be from coal burning home fires but perhaps from the disastrous, steaming destruction of a raging fire…
