Four Fresh Men Taking A Balloon For A Walk…
(My new poem inspired by a Peter Brook painting…)
Presumably on this rather cold, snowy day, evidenced
By house chimneys smoking at will, whilst the industrial
Stacks in the distance seem idle, perhaps Christmas Day, or just a Sunday
Is suggested as the reason for the meeting of friends, maybe at the Sun Inn, as referenced
In another Peter Brook painting, ‘New Moon’. And as the four fresh men regale
An astonished dog by taking a balloon for a walk, their minds somewhat astray,
A young girl gapes at the antics of the fellows and maybe strives
To wonder what reception they might receive from their waiting wives…
The streetlight glows upon the hues of the postbox, the advertisements and the balloon,
Dragged like a pet on a leash by a somewhat tipsy buffoon…
Pete Ray…
7th March 2026…
Winter? Some snow lying?
Christmas or New Year, hence the balloon?
My thoughts, just mine…
