RIVER MENALHYL, MAWGAN PORTH: A NEW POEM...

River Menalhyl, Mawgan Porth

A speedy stream spills and spoils
Then scowls at subtle, sodden sand
As it races onto the beach in spurning coils,
But the shoreline slows the scurrying tumult
To an eddy, scrabbling astray, spraying out its toils
Over pebbles and hideous stones,
Which agonise like sculpted gargoyles…
Thus, faced by Mawgan Porth’s portentous tide,
The Menalhyl defers, as the ocean foils…

Late afternoon, immediately following a rain shower and the river raced onto the beach at Mawgan Porth, before dying and conforming as it neared the sea…
