BEWDLEY TOWN v WELLINGTON AMATEURS: A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE JW HUNT CUP-TIE ON 8TH FEBRUARY...

My only visit to see Wellington Amateurs play was when they beat higher ranked Racing Club Warwick in the 2018 FA Vase competition, which was a real upset at the time…

THE RACERS WARM UP FOR A BEATING...

It was a match full of action, anger, angst and a glut of goals. There was poor defending, some fine shooting, yet very few actual saves were made by the two goalkeepers. There was a dismissal for Wellyams’ Marc Perry, whilst some incredibly hostile verbal assaults were fired at both the referee and the taller linesman, some abuse even emanating from an ex-referee on the sideline…

It all made for a wild afternoon at School Grove. Wellington were missing a couple of regular players I believe, whilst Warwick were without five or six of their usual starters too, but in truth Wellyams buckled down from the start, led 2-0 within minutes, were then pegged back to 2-2, saw Perry red-carded then trailed 2-3 early in the second-half.

WELLYAMS SCORE ONE OF THEIR 6 GOALS v RCW...

What happened then was truly remarkable, for with Racer Martin Slevin attempting in vain to whip his horsemen into meaningful action and score the vital fourth goal, the hosts hit their guests with a four-goal salvo against all the odds…

I saw Bewdley beat a poor Highgate team last Tuesday at Ribbesford Meadows and in truth they deserved their success, as they continue to battle to get clear of the basement in the Midland League Premier division.

The priceless winning goal was scored by striker Dylan Hart who thumped a low penalty-kick into the ‘Gate net during the second period after being fouled himself. However, the Riversiders might well have netted more goals on the night to be fair…

HART IS SURROUNDED AFTER SCORING v HIGHGATE...

To reach this stage of the JW Hunt Cup, Bewdley thumped Bilbrook Saints 8-0 at home in the previous round, the goals being scored by Tyler Smith 2, substitute Sam Judge 2, Josh Carpenter, Sam Lester and a brace in the final five minutes by Luke Morris.

Wellyams beat their division’s league leaders Gornal Athletic 4-2 at home in the last round with goals by Charlie Knowles who nabbed 2, Jake Challoner and Tyrell McFarlane.

RIBBESFORD MEADOWS...

So, all is set for a decent cup-tie between battling Bewdley and West Midland Division 1 outfit Wellington Amateurs, who lie 4th in the league standings at present.

Coverage of the match, including video action with commentary, a full report and some images will be found at themowdog.blogspot.com from Wednesday morning…
