THE SHUSH & THE RELUCTANCE: my new poem about the badgers at Temple Balsall...

 The Shush & The Reluctance…

A cool and tetchy breeze hustled

And tousled leaves into a demented,

Shivery gaiety, accompanied by elongated,

Dishevelling gusts and a shushing sound

Which likely contained the badgers underground…

The furtive glances as two badgers bustled

Hungry from a sett, any intrusion resented,

Led to a short forage, then they hastily retreated

Into their hole, via a bedding-strewn raked mound,

Leaving the windswept copse vacated all around…

18th August 2023…

Once again, there was a dearth of badgers in the Temple Balsall copse.

There was a reluctance to investigate the ground for the food scattered there…

The wind’s shushing sounds were clearly not welcomed by the two badgers which did appear but only for a matter of a few seconds…
