Game Preview: FC PREMIER 2008 v WOMBOURNE ALL STARS... (Saturday, 9th December 2023...)

The Mowdog's Preview of Saturday's West Midlands Regional League Division 2 Game Between FC Premier 2008 & Wombourne All Stars...

My first visit to FC Premier on Saturday sees the hosts, currently lying 11th of the 13 teams in the West Midlands Regional League Division 2, take on 4th placed Wombourne All Stars.

FC PREMIER PLAY JUST BEHIND THE MAIN PITCH...

Changes have been made at Premier recently and indeed their form has been slightly better of late. A different manager and new signings are expected to improve the fortunes of the club, whilst visitors Wombourne will be looking to stay in touch with the top three of Oldbury United, AFC Bentley and Stourbridge Standard. However, Bentley have four matches in hand on leaders United and only trail them by three points.

Premier have won 2, drawn 3 and lost 9 of their 14 matches and their goal difference is -25, having scored 27 and conceded 52 in amassing just 9 points.

The last half-dozen games:

A heavy 1-8 defeat at their Ray Hall Lane ground to Punjab United saw Jordan Stephens score the consolation goal and Alex Bowen was voted the team’s MVP, presumably by the opponents.

SKIPPER ALEX BOWEN...

Next came a 2-4 home defeat by AFC Bentley, during which Ibrahima Diallo and MVP Dan Harte scored the FC goals.

A 0-2 Birmingham Saturday Vase defeat at home to Punjab was a better looking result than the previous 1-8 thumping by United and indeed the next league encounter was drawn 1-1 on the road at Bilbrook, where Diallo was voted the MVP, Romone Brown scored the goal but Dion Calder was sin-binned during the contest.

ROMONE BROWN...

A rousing 5-5 draw v Dudley Kingswinford must have been a wild match to witness, for not only did Rikki Danton nab a brace of goals but he was also awarded a brace of yellow cards and was thus dismissed. Harte was chosen as the MVP and scored twice, with the other goal being netted by substitute Stephens.

JAMES MACHIN, 2 STARTS THIS TERM & RETAINED BY THE CLUB...

Another contest with Punjab came next, away from home and this time Premier were narrowly defeated by 2-1, with Brown being the scorer…

Wombourne’s current form…

The All Stars have won 7, lost 7 and drawn just 1 of their 15 games so far, scoring 34 times and conceding 33 in collecting a total of 22 points.

WOMBOURNE: CURRENTLY 4TH IN THE DIVISION...

After losing 4-0 at Darlaston Town 1874 in the JW Hunt Cup, Wombourne were beaten 5-1 at Punjab in the league, where an 85th minute goal by replacement Deandre Davis was a mere consolation. Jon Patrick was voted as the team’s MVP.

Current league leaders Oldbury then travelled to Wombourne and won 3-4, with the All Stars’ goals coming from MVP Matt Hogg, Leo Gill and Luke Arkinstall-Shore. (Arkinstall is a name I recall from my schooldays, for a Mr Arkinstall arrived at my Primary School to run the soccer team in Birmingham just after I had left…)

A 1-3 win at Kidderminster Harriers Reserves came next, where Patrick netted a hat-trick and I guess he would have been chosen as the MVP, had voting been done by the hosts…

JON HAT-TRICK PATRICK...

Stourbridge Standard then beat visitors Wombourne, the only All Stars’ goal being secured by replacement Shuja Mahmood. Sam Lynex received the MVP honours.

The most recent outing was a 3-0 victory over BRS United and the goals this time came courtesy of Hogg’s brace and another by Arkinstall-Shore. The MVP was accolade was awarded to Raheem Akhtar…

GEORGE TROMANS: 8 STARTS AND A GOAL FOR THE ALL STARS...
