STAITHES UNDER PRESSURE... (My new poem about an old image of Staithes, North Yorkshire...)

 Staithes Under Pressure…



Anaemic Staithes, its natural colour drained,

Has been rendered ashen, insipid, grim and grey

Like a huddled village in a horror movie, filmed in greyscale,

Whilst chimneys ooze wispy smoke from lusty coal fires.


The threatened dwellings, defensive and strained

Await the North Seas next assault, an imminent wild affray 

Rising like a furious predator, thrashing its vicious tail,

As white venom spits over the harbour walls like flickering ocean spires… 


And the broiling sea broth, fed by the valleys steep beck

Turns and tumbles and twists its wicked, wilful neck…
