BRINKLOW: STILL STRUGGLING...

"A game, judging by the league position and expectation, that Brinklow seemed to be favourites to win, even though they had not performed very well in the previous games.

First-half:

At the onset and during the period of the first-half, Brinklow were passing the ball and distributing it quite well, whilst the opposition were happy to counter-attack, launch the ball and capitalise upon Brinklow's defensive errors. 

Brinklow strung some good chances together, which could have seen them 2 or 3 goals up but it would be unfair if I didn't mention that Copsewood had a cross that went across the goalmouth in the first few minutes and they missed 1 on 1 chances on 2 occasions, due to the misjudgement of a long ball and a kick misplacement. 

Therefore they could have balanced the score. In short, Brinklow played the better football, whilst Copsewood defended well. 60-40 Brinklow... 

Second-half:

Both teams wanted a result, with stronger challenges and an increase in pace and play. Brinklow looked good but Copsewood came into the game with a little more hunger. 

They hit a post and gained a lead early into the half by a cross which went to their player within the 6 yard box, who eluded the Brinklow defence for a header into the far post. 

Deflated, the Brinklow team lost their game-play temporarily, leading to more attacks from the opposition. Brinklow shrugged off this deflated feeling and improved their play. Changes were made by both teams to help improve their status in the game. Good attacks were made by both teams, Brinklow improved and as they say, persistence prevailed. 

Brinklow equalised after a cross fell kindly for Brinklow's midfielder to kick home and score. Play was temporarily stopped as feelings ran high; a Brinklow player was deemed to have impeded a Copsewood player when trying to retrieve the ball from the opposition. The referee dealt with the situation, producing yellow cards to both players. 

Play resumed and both teams were now searching for the winning goal that would see their team gain 3 points. A Brinklow attack broke down, Copsewood took the opportunity and their striker scored as Brinklow's defence failed to deal with a long ball on the right side. 

Now Brinklow had to find a way to get back into the game. They increased their attacks mainly on the left side but with no success. Copsewood had some spells too, which failed to produce another goal. The referee gave a penalty to Copsewood which was not converted, for a tackle on their striker when a long throw was launched into the box.  

Brinklow tried to find the equalising goal that would have given them a share of the points but their attacks were defended well as a united team by Copsewood. 50-50 game...

Overall: 

Brinklow did not play well throughout the game; a lack of focus, a lack of creativity and not dealing with the long, high balls were critical factors. But the biggest factor was that Copsewood played well by dealing with our long balls and attacks. They played as a team and wanted it more. 

As a player writing this report, I felt disappointed and I truly hope we learn. We must learn quickly to put right our critical factors in this game, play as a determined team and start to win games..."
