AFC BINLEY'S MANAGER EDWIN GREAVES WRITES ABOUT HIS TEAM'S 1-1 DRAW AT COVENTRY COLLIERY RESERVES...

"AFC Binley got the game underway but it was Colliery Res. who started the better of the two sides.

A mix up in the Binley defence gave the Colliery number 9 a great opportunity to score in the opening 2 minutes but he shot wide.

Colliery played the better football and forced the returning Jordan Campbell into a save down low to his right.

In the 26th minute Colliery took the lead from a throw-in when their number 8 scored with a header: 1-0...

We then responded back straight away with our best opportunity when Travis Smallwood was through on the Colliery goalkeeper but he shot wide."

Half-Time: Cov. Colliery Res. 1-0 AFC Binley...

"Colliery got the 2nd half underway but found things a lot more difficult.

We managed to stop them moving the ball as well and started to force them into making mistakes.

In the 53rd minute a poor back pass was intercepted by Travis Smallwood who was 1 on 1 but was denied a goal when the Colliery goalkeeper saved with his legs.
In the 58th minute Will Waddell was replaced by Bennie Adeeko

In the 72nd minute Simon Lightowler and Ryan Lally were replaced by Kyle Metcalfe and George Higginson.

In the 91st minute we equalised when an Andy Godfrey corner wasn't cleared and the ball fell to Blake Kassar, who scored from close range: 1-1.

With still a few minutes of added time left Colliery had a corner which was defended well and the game finished with us on the attack."

Full-time: Cov. Colliery Res. 1-1 AFC Binley...

In Summing Up This Game:

"Colliery were streets ahead of us in the 1st half but didn't really create a lot of chances and Jordan Campbell had a fairly quiet afternoon.

Colliery deserved their lead and played some very attractive football in the 1st half.

We, on the other hand, were slow, lethargic and struggled to pass the ball, never really working the Colliery goalkeeper at all.

The half-time break was just what we needed and the lads came out for the 2nd half more focused and more urgent in their play.

We were lucky when gifted an early opportunity to score but couldn't take advantage of it.

With the game almost beyond us we got a deserved equaliser and a draw was a fair result on the day.

I don't think either goalkeeper broke sweat today but my lads showed a lot of character and a lot of fight, right up until the last minute of our season.

I am not sure where we will finish in the League table as there are still some games to play, however we currently sit 3rd.

After last season's promotion we have had several highs and lows but I feel that the lads have always given me their all."

AFC Binley Manager...
