'BENCHED...': A NEW POEM ABOUT KIRSTY ELSON'S ARTWORK...

Benched…
(Kirsty Elson’s September image from her 2019 calendar…)

The quay was out of focus,
As if a sea-mist was descending
Upon an indeterminate group of cottages,
Fading them into insignificance, pending
A stiff breeze;
Worn steps and a weathered blue side-door
Paled, as if portraying
Themselves as untouchable
And even the restless gull fussed to soar,
Fretting its unease…

The gaze though unerringly seems to fixate
Upon a limitless wooden pole
And an artisan’s bench of timber, crude,
From where the weary contemplate
The scene, its murky privacy to intrude…
