AFC BINLEY MANAGER EDWIN GREAVES WRITES ABOUT HIS TEAM'S 5-3 DEFEAT AT AFC WOODS UNITED...

"Woods United, from the Premier Division got the game underway and created their first opportunity in the 1st minute when their captain, the number 7 crossed for the number 23 to shoot wide.

In the 2nd minute a Sebastian Kassar pass split the Woods defence for Sean Ryder to shoot wide.

In the 5th minute Luis Gomez and Blake Kassar linked up for Melusi Mazwi to shoot from distance but his effort was saved well by the Woods goalkeeper. Nothing came from the resulting corner.

In the 11th minute a Luis Gomez pass set Sean Ryder free who made no mistake with his shot to score: 0-1.

Woods responded straight away when their 23 crossed, but the number 10 shot over.

In the 15th minute Woods did level the score with a deserved equaliser when their number 11 scored from close range: 1-1.

In the 16th and 19th minutes, Woods missed two more opportunities through their numbers 23 and 8.

In the 29th minute Woods were awarded a penalty and their number 7 sent 'keeper Ash Riley the wrong way: 2-1.

Woods increased their lead further in the 36th minute with a goal from the number 8: 3-1.

In the 43rd minute, the Woods number 11 completed the scoring for the first-half: 4-1."

Half-time: Woods 4-1 AFC Binley...

"The 2nd half started and in the 51st minute a Sebastian Kassar free-kick was headed over the target by Blake Kassar.

In the 57th minute Luis Gomez was fouled just outside the 18 yard box and Andy Godfrey scored with his free-kick: 4-2.

Substitutions came next and Kyle Metcalf and Sean Ryder were replaced by Mtshuza Ncube and Tyler Morgan.

On 58 minutes Zach Garland was replaced by Bennie Adeeko,
then in the 72nd minute the Woods number 10 had another opportunity to score but shot wide.

In the 86th minute we were awarded another free-kick, Andy Godfrey again took it but this time the effort was cleared. However, Melusi Mazwi shot from outside the box to score: 4-3.

With us pressing for an unlikely equaliser to take the game to penalties, Woods broke away and scored in the 90th minute: 5-3."

Full-time: Woods Utd 5-3 AFC Binley...

In Summing Up This Game:

"Although we went in front early, Woods were by far the better side.

Woods played some attractive football, well and truly enjoyed a large percentage of possession and we were fortunate to only be three goals down at half-time.

In the 2nd half we managed to do ourselves justice and gave Woods an uncomfortable afternoon towards the end of the game. However, Woods ran out deserved winners.

I would like to wish Woods all the best in the remainder of their cup campaign and all the best for the season.

As for us, today was another big test for the lads playing a team from the division above us and although we came up short I definitely learned a few lessons.

Hopefully this defeat will make my lads stronger as we go forward with the remainder of our League campaign..."
