The Rabbit’s Exit & The Dominant Badger’s Entrance…
Plants had grown with a spurt in little more than a week
In the copse, which bristled green as the sun lowered.
And despite the outside daylight,
An aura of silent gloom was eerily created.
I caught a glimpse of a rabbit behind me, a meek,
Solitary white-tailed lingerer, which glowered,
Possibly spotting a snack but feeling contrite,
For the setts were abundant and its hunger frustrated.
The rabbit exited quickly as badgers began to appear
In the copse, which to the songs of evening birds echoed.
And despite the outside daylight,
Upon its parapet, one badger raised its head.
As others fed, one dominant Brock stalked from the rear,
Its rapid advance stealthy and powerful as it strode
In amongst the feeding cete with stubborn might
And scattered the badgers which like the rabbit, fled…
