SHARING MAWGAN PORTH WITH THE RIVER MENALHYL...

Sharing Mawgan Porth With The River Menalhyl…

2022...

It slithers seaward along the Vale of Lanherne,

Often hidden, often hiding as it winds past

Caravan parks, farmland, woods and cattle,

Until, depending upon recent rain, it flushes beneath

Mawgan Porth’s bridge and fans out, flooding

Beach sand with fresh water and stones, brooding,

Baring its incessant hustling, invasive grief.

Slicing a swathe across luscious sand it scuttles,

Cutting ruts across the beach, rippling fast,

Its incursion a seemingly permanent cause for concern…

2006...

ALSO 2006...

Somehow, the River Menalhyl has become a major feature on Mawgan Porth’s beach.

Note in the 2022 image how banks of sand have been formed, which when trodden upon, send them and you into the shallows...

2008...

Some years back it dragged animal waste onto the beach, following heavy rain and a lot of folks, me included, became sick and some were unable to leave caravans, or booked rooms, causing some chaos to the tourist industry.

2014...

Always sensible I suppose to enter the sea on the opposite side to the river, just in case…

2017...
