THE BUGLER, BAREHEADED... (MY NEW POEM ABOUT THE MEMORIAL ON BRIGHTON'S SEA-FRONT...)

 The Bugler, Bareheaded…

Bareheaded, the bugler wears a greatcoat

Flapping open, as if the troops were in disarray.

And with his left boot resting higher upon a rock,

He sounds a counter charge perhaps, or a recall,

His expression revealing a battle’s harsh strain.

Rugged, the bugler plays his call, a note

Reaching out to the troops, perhaps led astray.

But with his left hand clenched as hard as rock,

His gallant demeanour belies his appal,

As he rallies comrades with the sound of his refrain…

A superb memorial facing the Channel, at the entrance to Regency Square, Brighton, Sussex.

A Boer War memorial, erected in 1904, oddly it now has a fine view of Brighton’s derelict old pier with the words ‘BEST VIEWS’ clearly visible…

Hmm…

Excellent memorial on a fine sea-front, however…

A MEMORIAL SHOWING 'PEACE' WHICH COMMEMORATED KING EDWARD VII, KNOWN AS THE PEACEMAKER & A LOVER OF BRIGHTON...
