FRESHWATER TENDRILS & A THREATENING BANK OF CLOUD... (My new poem about Porthtowan, Cornwall...)

 Freshwater Tendrils & A Threatening Bank Of Cloud…



A stream’s tendrils seek out the ocean’s shallows,

Flicking curling channels through packed, damp sand

Before meeting a tepid tide of waves small and bland, 

Though gradually encroaching upon the stone-strewn beach…


A steely cloud bank slouches across the horizon in shadows,

Its lurid form lurching eastwards towards Cornish land,

Before it ignites a rainbow over a Porthtowan headland

And over a pallid green sea, the coastline it strains to reach…

The sea became a strange pale green colour as the weak tide joined the rivulets of stream water, trickling down Porthtowan’s beach.



On the horizon, rain fell but there was also a steely grey bank of cloud, almost anvil-shaped, heading eastwards towards Padstow perhaps…
