PORTREATHOSAUR... My new poem about a rock formation at Portreath, Cornwall...

 Portreathosaur…



Its huge head rested just beyond a harbour arm

At Portreath. Prehistoric, with a large reptilian eye

Which seemed almost melancholic, as the creature basked

In a forceful wind, constantly being drenched

By ferocious breaking waves which deflected

From its formidable skull and spiralled white, 

In a fine display of surf cascading…


Its repose suggested that it meant no harm,

As statuesque it continued to lie

And its predatory instincts were worryingly masked.

Its immense torso had likely in wet sand become entrenched,

Yet despite its gentle inoffensive aura, I detected

A hidden, underestimated might

And potent threat in this languid beast, masquerading…

Very windy at Portreath, the sea wildly lashing at the sea front and also a rock formation just beyond a harbour arm which looked so like a prehistoric creature’s gigantic head.



Portreath needs that extra level of protection from the elements, methinks…
