PARADE HILL, THEN & NOW... (My new poem about a short section of Parade Hill, Mousehole, Cornwall...)

 Parade Hill, Then & Now...

(Mousehole, Cornwall...)

The leaning pipe-smoking seafarer passes some time by

Conversing with a fellow on a rough hewn lane, who might

Have returned from a fishing trip, kitbag in hand,

Outside a stone cottage, close to Mousehole’s north

Harbour wall. Luggers at anchor tarry before the island, grey

Like charcoal on a dank erstwhile day in Mount’s Bay…

The streetlight, seasonal lanterns and a moody sunrise sky

Peer down at yellow lines upon a modern paved lane, alight

With reflections, leading to the quay, historic and grand.

The Mousehole, a craft shop above a car-park glares along North

Cliff towards Fore Street but although no boats lie moored in the bay,

A gleaming, silver tide ripples beneath a dull sky of warning grey…

26th December 2024…

I took a quick image of Parade Hill, Mousehole as it turns into the street called North Cliff, early in the morning of 20th December 2024, as I left the village to drive home to Solihull.

I wanted to compare an old image of the view to how it looks now…

I prefer the old.

No surprise there…
