OLD LONGSHIPS LIGHTHOUSE... (My new poem inspired by Sue Nichol's fine painting...)

 Old Longships Lighthouse…

(Inspired by Sue Nichol’s painting…)

It’s in the fame, I guess, a towering nautical reference.

The rock, a lighthouse base, a solidity to endure

Storms, gales, high seas and crude, weathering perseverance.

The twirling, crashing, oppressing, combative grievance

And turbulence hurls its impressive, rasping, perplexing furore

To spit at the stone and engulf its unwavering permanence…

It’s in my name I guess, an accepted biblical reference.

The rock, a steadying base, a solidity to bear and endure

Hardships, misjudgements, transgressions and pessimism.

The swirling, thrashing, depressing, disruptive encumbrance

Of existence hurls its offensive, grasping, vexing lure

To rip at my core and probe at my wavering optimism…

Peter Ray…
