THE TERRIFIED WAITER...

The Terrified Waiter

He approached with a gait which in truth
Suggested genuine, abject fear;
I thought he was a hovering, local layabout,
His intentions garbled and rather unclear...

He stood with a gait, which in truth
Suggested genuine, sheer mindlessness;
He wrought his hands like a blithering ass,
His intentions muttered, the image of uselessness…

He nodded with a gait, which in truth
Suggested genuine, full incomprehension;
He sought an order but then simply froze,
His intentions inaudible and beyond reprehension…

A tough introduction, first day, to Dubrovnik.
Nice enough chap but he fell apart whilst taking orders and I felt like he should have sat down and I ought to have been serving him...
