COLESHILL TOWN 4-2 TIVIDALE FC: FULL MATCH REPORT...

Colemen Deliver, As Tenacious Tividale Toil At Pack Meadow

Coleshill Town 4-2 Tividale FC

Just as they did at The Beeches last Tuesday, Tividale made the going difficult for periods of this game against another team in decent form and high in the league table. They led, looked enterprising on occasions and only an upright prevented Lewis Probert scoring a second goal which would have made Coleshill’s task harder. Town though responded with some speedy attacks and equalised from one of those but in truth the drive behind the hosts’ offensive second-half showing was undoubtedly midfielder Tom Weale whose measured passing at times was excellent on the all-weather surface at Pack Meadow. Weale went so close to scoring with a pair of free-kick shots and forced visiting goalie Luke Kriskianans to make a fine save from an outrageous, chipped attempt and indeed, he reminded me of an NFL quarterback, spraying the ball about with some confidence. Kriskianans made a couple of fine stops after the break too and the goal-frame denied home replacement Craig Milligan.

YEP, TIVI-BOOTS ARE ALL OK...

‘Dale wouldn’t go away though and driven on by skipper Karl Gardner, they fought back to 3-2 following a brace of Jordan Nadat goals and in fact took the game to their hosts but Mykel Beckley added a fourth goal for the Colemen and Nadat, along with substitute Reece Leek, kept the rapid forward play going until the final whistle. Despite their courageous efforts, Tividale were deservedly beaten on the night and although Weale was the architect for Town, in Gio Dainty and Dale Taylor, Coleshill possessed another couple of busy and creative players in midfield too. Dan Smith scored both Tivi’ goals but once again striker Chris Bladen’s faultless effort brought no satisfying rewards for himself or his team. 

...BUT JORDAN'S STILL STRUGGLING...

Liam Smith was prominent in the opening exchanges for ‘Dale but Nadat soon warned of his danger with a low right-footer from an angle into the side-netting. Good approach play on the left by Bladen ended with Lewis McPike releasing a rising shot too high for the guests, before Beckley cut in dangerously from the left-flank and only good hands by Kriskianans kept out the winger’s low 18 yard shot. The visitors took the lead their early play had perhaps deserved, when Probert’s left-side delivery was retrieved on the right-side by McPike. The winger’s low near post centre deflected off a Coleshill player but was collected with his back to goal by Dan Smith and he did well to turn near the right edge of the 6 yard box and rap a low scoring shot into the far corner of the home net.

A curling Weale free-kick from 26 yards drifted just off target with Kriskianans scurrying and then a move started by Nadat ended with the Tivi’ ‘keeper advancing to cannon Beckley’s one-on-one shot off the forward and out for a goal-kick. After Probert’s low 25 yard left-booted drive had struck the left upright, following good play by Dan Smith and McPike, Liam Smith shot too high and a good break on the ‘Dale right by Bladen fizzled out, yet the hosts then broke away with cruel efficiency to regain parity through left-sider Josh Quaynor. Clinical attacking was the key and after Corey Currithers had seen a shot deflected for a corner, Dainty soon fed Beckley whose touch around half-way allowed Taylor to angle a smart through-pass into the inside-left channel for Quaynor to run onto and his low shot appeared to beat the falling Kriskianans at his near stick.

Another sortie by Quaynor ended with good handling at the foot of his near upright by the Tivi’ goalkeeper, then Weale’s downward near post header from a right-flank corner was again held well on his goal-line by Kriskianans. Certainly Coleshill had become dominant and all the guests could muster was a challenge by Jacob Wedderburn from Dan Smith’s left-side cross, following a corner but the right-back failed to connect with the ball. Nadat made a good run on the right from half-way, cut inside and drove a shot straight at Kriskianans, Darragh Bustin was cautioned for ‘Dale after pulling back an opponent and with the temperature dropping, the proceedings were called to a halt. Both teams had passed the ball regularly on the flat surface and although it was good to watch the movement of the Tividale forwards, the rapidity of the Town offense-men always appeared to be the main threat to the survival of the guests.

The second period start was illuminated by a dramatic sequence which culminated in a goal-line clearance by the steady Tividale defender Freddie Watts but immediately afterwards the award of a penalty to the hosts, for hardworking right-back Rob Evans appeared to be slid into by Kriskianans on the offensive left byeline. A free-kick had caused a little mayhem for ‘Dale and although Nadat’s short overhead cross from the right of goal had evaded Beckley aerially, the ball looked sure to be cleared by Wedderburn but he was tackled on the byeline by Evans. As Evans slipped a pass back for Dainty to strike, Kriskianans then slid into the Town man and so when Watts cleared Dainty’s 10 yard shot from the goal-line, the official subsequently awarded the penalty. Nadat shot left-footed and high to the goalie’s left and Coleshill led.

Currithers had taken a knock and Reece Leek replaced the wide player for Town but Leek’s contribution was to prove effective right from the start and Chris Hill, the Tivi’ left-back, was suddenly run at regularly. Indeed, Leek soon took advantage of the leak in defence to provide Nadat with an easy finish. The danger came initially from a Weale free-kick and the pressure remained on Tivi’, for a neat scooped pass by Weale caused more desperate defending and then Weale’s 15 yard shot was blocked out to Leek whose neat low cross found Nadat in front of an open net to convert, with the distraught Wedderburn who had been warned about a foul just moments before, unable to prevent a goal.

OMG... HE SCORES AND STILL JORDAN'S LACES MALFUNCTION... 

The goal stunned Tividale into action though and they began to threaten again, gaining a left-side corner which McPike swung straight into the grasp of ‘keeper Paul Hathaway, who dropped the ball and the lurking Dan Smith performed a low over-shoulder finish from close in and the score was suddenly 3-2. 

A smart pass by Dainty though freed the sprinting Beckley and only a fine save by the advancing Kriskianans prevented goal four but Nadat also failed to plant the rebound into goal, instead firing past the near post from inside-right when unmarked. Nadat drove a shot too high before the visitors managed to win a free-kick 25 yards out. The number 8 shirt was missing after the interval and so I am guessing that the number 19 was now Probert (apologies if totally wrong…) and his free-kick shot struck the defensive wall, caused a little chaos but after the ball had bounced goalwards off solid home defender Tom Fishwick, Hathaway had to scramble right to touch the ball away from his right post. After that, Coleshill dominated and really could have scored more than the single Beckley goal which was nabbed late on, meaning that there was always a faint possibility of a break by the plucky Tivi’ players to secure a vital, if undeserved away point.

A low drive by Quaynor was hung onto by Kriskianans, Weale’s lovely pass into the penalty-box saw Nadat turn and smack a great volleyed cross-shot into the far top corner of the net, an effort which was disallowed, then Leek so nearly got a telling touch to yet another delicately placed Weale pass. Weale’s instant 35 yard chip at the exposed Kriskianans brought a brilliant leaping save from the goaltender, Dainty made way for replacement Craig Milligan and Kriskianans dived right to turn away a powerful low shot by Leek from 16 yards, before a spectacular pair of Coleshill shots at goal tested the resolve of the uprights.

First Weale measured up a 27 yard free-kick left of centre and his brilliant high shot cannoned off the inside of the right post, flew beyond the left stick and there was Milligan to smack the rebound against the outside of that upright. The fourth goal was imminent and soon came, following more attacking by Town and again it was a clever pass over the ‘Dale defence by the rampant Weale which set up the score. Evans was onside as he fastened onto the feed but unselfishly he squared it for the deserving Beckley to covert into an open net.

It remained only for Hathaway to be threatened by a back-pass, which Fishwick sorted out and after clever work near the left byeline by Weale, a superbly struck 25 yard half-volley by Evans brought a fine, low diving save to his right by the impressive Kriskianans and the game soon ended. 

The game was enjoyable to watch and Tividale gave much to the entertainment but in truth, Coleshill looked the more dangerous team, prompted by the excellence of Weale whose passing had been a delight to watch. Adding to that was the pace of Beckley, plus the confident quickness and poaching ability of Nadat whose late showboating near the right corner-flag was rather tasty and Tivi’ were forced back. The supporting runs of Quaynor and Evans and the back-up midfield play of Taylor and Dainty only proved Town’s ascendancy as the game wore on. The fine substitute appearance from Leek did not go unnoticed, neither did the generally effective defensive play of Jesse Race, who really SHOULD name a son Roy…

Elliott Harvey and Harvey Walker made late appearance for ‘Dale but they were not able to affect the run of play at the late stages they were introduced. A ‘Wealey' fine victory in the end for the Colemen against a worthy opponent…
