ASTON CLINTON v THAME RANGERS: MATCH PREVIEW...

Spartan South Midlands League Division 2

Preview: Aston Clinton v Thame Rangers,
Tuesday 9th May 2017

This encounter brings together the league champions Thame Rangers and the hosts, Aston Clinton, who sit third in the division. A Sean Coles strike divided the teams at Meadow View Park on April 17th, as Thame charged on towards the title and Aston will surely be looking for some kind of revenge in this Tuesday fixture…

The statistics below are collated from the current updates on the ‘full-time’ website and so if there are any discrepancies, I apologise!

Aston Clinton have won 21 of their 32 league games thus far, drawing 4 and losing 7 but their goal difference is less than half of their guests’ total: 41 to 87. The hosts have amassed 67 points, 3 ahead of Enfield Borough, who have a better goal difference. Clinton therefore need one point from two matches to stay above Enfield whose one remaining game, unbelievably, is at Thame on Saturday, a match I hope to see…

After the 1-0 defeat at Thame, Aston Clinton played 3 home games in succession, beating rivals Enfield 1-0, then Unite MK 2-0 but Totternhoe beat them on their own patch 1-3, before Aston won 3-2 on the road at The 66FC on Saturday…
LEWIS WORKMAN: THE WORKHORSE IN ATTACK FOR ASTON CLINTON...

Lewis Workman has made the most appearances this season with 36, closely followed by Callum Jenkins’ 35 and of course Workman is the top goalscorer too with 31 overall. Sadly, the next top scorer is way back on 8 and that is Liam McEhinney, which perhaps explains the contrast between the two teams’ goal difference totals this term.
TOP SCORER (31) & MOST APPEARANCES (36): LEWIS WORKMAN IN ACTION...

Overall at home, Aston have won 9 of 18 games but they have averaged under 2 goals per match and in home and away outings overall, 23 matches were won from 38, scoring 90 times and conceding 56, an average of 2.6 goals per game netted…

Thame have already won Division 2 with 26 wins from 32 games so far, having lost 4 of the remaining 6 matches. Their goal difference is a huge 87 and 80 points have been gained in the process, currently 5 ahead of second placed Totternhoe.

After the victory over Aston Clinton, Rangers won three successive road games: 6-4 at Unite MK, 4-2 at St Neots Town Reserves and 3-0 at challengers Totternhoe, before losing in the League Challenge Trophy to Premier Champions London Colney, 3-0. They then beat Penn and Tylers Green in the High Wycombe Senior Cup, 4-1, before their most recent league victory, 5-2 v St Neots at home…
PAUL BROWN: 49 APPEARANCES & NO TIME EVEN FOR A SHAVE...

Shayne Almond leads the goalscoring chart with 48 overall (40 in the league), followed by Sean Coles with 31 overall and Daniel Delderfield, who has 16. Leading the way with appearances are both Sean Coles and Paul Brown, with 49 overall.
SHAYNE ALMOND: 48 GOALS OVERALL...
SEAN COLES: 49 APPEARANCES, 31 GOALS...

Rangers’ away record overall this season is so good: 20 wins from 23 matches with a goals ratio of 88-30, meaning 3.8 goals scored on the road on average. Their overall record is excellent too: 45 wins from 54 games, scoring 192 goals and conceding just 63, meaning a goals scored average of 3.56 per match and a goals conceded average of just over 1…
DAN DELDERFIELD: 16 GOALS FOR THE RANGERS...
