The East Midlands League draws to a close on Saturday when the Shiners from South Normanton visit the Olympic of Radcliffe, Notts.
The hosts are currently lying 10th in the division with 70 points, although they could manage 9th with a draw, thereby overtaking Ashby Ivanhoe. 22 wins from 41 matches, whilst drawing 4, has seen them accrue rather a low goal difference of just +4.
South Normanton lie 3rd in the division but could snatch 2nd and runners-up spot behind Champions West Bridgford with a draw, thus overtaking Birstall United. They have won 26 of 41 matches, losing just 8 and their goal difference is a healthy +48 during a season which has seen them amass 85 points.
Radcliffe lost at home to Kimberley Miners Welfare (1-2) on the 8th April but since then have remained unbeaten, winning 3 games on the road at Belper United (1-2), at West Bridgford surprisingly (0-1) then after a home draw v Ashby Ivanhoe (2-2), they won 2-3 at Borrowash Victoria on 24th April.
Leading scorer overall this term is Ryan Smith with 33, followed by Scott Litchfield with 13.

Most appearances overall have been made by Paul Durham with 43, followed by Jake Morris (40), Liam Smallwood (39) and Ryan Smith with 38, meaning that Ryan scored a fraction under a goal a game for the season.
The Olympic home record overall is 10 wins from 22, losing 9 with a goals ratio of 56 to 47, meaning that they scored an average of 2.5 goals per game at home, whilst conceding 2.1 goals per game.
The Shiners’ recent form was decent, gaining 11 points from the last 15 and losing no games at all. Home wins v Holbrook Sports (3-1) and Radford (2-0), were followed by a 1-4 victory at Anstey Nomads, before a brace of draws on the road at Ashby Ivanhoe (1-1) and Borrowash Victoria (2-2) completed the set.
Overall top goalscorer Luke Crosby has notched 31 goals from 37 games (just under a goal per game), Lee Fell has managed 16 and Kev Hemagou has 13 from 10 matches…

Overall appearance records are impressive, with six players having featured in 40 matches or more: Dan Roberts 48, Charlie Mansfield 45, Kane Jellyman 44, Mark Strzynski 43, David Leigh 42 and Courtney Bartley 40. Consistency and thus success has certainly arisen from what appears to have been a regular squad.

On the road, their overall record is 15 wins from 28 games, more than a 50% success rate of victories, whilst the goals ratio is 57-33, meaning just over 2 goals per game scored away from home and just over 1 goal per game conceded.

The previous encounter at South Normanton was won convincingly by the Shiners on 12th October by a score of 5-1, a match in which Crosby and Fell each netted a brace and Tom Lewis the other for the hosts, whilst Litchfield scored Olympic’s consolation goal.
Both teams therefore have something to achieve from this isolated match which brings the EMCFL to a final close for the 2016-17 season…
