EDWIN GREAVES: BACK IN NON-LEAGUE MANAGEMENT…
EDWIN GREAVES... |
The club’s name was changed to Coventry United and the team played two seasons in the Midland League Division 3 and then Division 2 on a fine pitch called The Cage at The Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry. Two promotions were thus achieved and so the club needed to ground-share in League 1, obviously needing access to floodlights and were kindly offered the opportunity to play their games at Premier Division Coventry Sphinx’s stadium in Sphinx Drive.
With the Division 1 title in sight, Edwin was sacked, a dismal story which can be found elsewhere on this blog…
He took over at Coventry Alliance Brinklow FC for the start of the season just completed but a conflict of aims and ambitions led to internal difficulties and Edwin parted company with the club which really wanted to remain as a village concern, rather than progressing through the leagues.
Edwin has recently made a decision to get back into non-league football and has written about his reasons why…
Thanks Edwin.
Many people will be pleased that your talents will not go to waste…
"Very few of us see football the same way and football has a way of dividing us all, making us laugh but also at times, to make us cry.
At the grass-roots level it's all about enjoying what you do with the time that you have and trying to put something back into the game we all love so that our kids and grandchildren have a safe environment to show off their talents in the future.
I have had a tough twelve months and it's been another massive learning curve for me but I've learned a lot.
There are so many nice people in grass-roots football who you meet along the way that are so passionate about their chosen non-league side but have still found time to communicate with me and offer support and I will always be grateful to those people.
I only hope that one day I can return the compliment.
What now for me? I have decided to manage AFC Binley who will be playing their football next season in the Coventry Alliance Division 3.
I still love football and my family is not ready for me to be at home yet every Saturday!
AFC Binley was formed by four young local lads and have been going for 2 seasons now, finishing second in Alliance 4 last season.
Will Waddell, Ben and Sean Ryder and Chris Corkery have asked me to join them and help them shape the club for the future.
I still feel that I have a lot to offer and definitely have loads of experience to offer a club which has similar hopes and dreams to mine.
Nobody knows what the future holds for us but together, hopefully we can build a club to be proud of..."
