Up the Wooden Hill
Two cottages nailed into Cornish heritage:
White and grey, their tiny windows black;
Roofs tacked onto these fisher-folks’ homes,
Preserving an age never to be clawed back…
Strewn about the montage are various things:
Rowboats, fishing nets and buoys;
Ropes, a deckchair, two life-rings,
Perhaps abandoned like children’s toys…
Slim doorways hint at humanity,
The dwellings to a slipway of driftwood cling,
Telling of another time and simplicity
And the two gulls a vitality to the montage bring…
