2010 AND DUNKIRK ARE CLOSING IN ON THE LEAGUE TITLE BUT THEY NEED POINTS AT BORROWASH VICS...

A bunch of misfit youths crowded into a corner of Borrowash’s grandstand to see eventual champions Dunkirk play against the Vics…

They bellowed, chanted and harangued the referee, the Dunkirk players and especially penalty-taker Westcarr, whose shot was duly saved by home goalie Kennerson, to the amusement of the youths.

They then moved behind the Dunkirk goal with the express motive of putting off the Boatmen’s goalie, Want. They failed to do that, at least…

Dunkirk won the game 0-1 with an early strike by winger Theo Smith…

Mere Scavengers

Like gulls retreating and flocking
To their sanctuary:
A movement,
A concentration
Of summer broods;
One mind, moving to roost,
The youths spewed
Into the grandstand…

Like hyenas chuckling and mocking
In their safety:
A statement,
A damnation
Of similar moods;
No thought, moving to roost,
The youths aped
A disagreeable band…

Like scavengers advancing and flocking
To their prey:
A decision,
An indignation
Of summer hoods;
One anger, moving to roost,
The youths berated
With threatening hands…
