Hidden In A Cleft…
Gannets and guillemots and razorbills clung
To ridiculous ledges in lines,
Clusters and crags, with screams and hullabaloo;
And the sea tousles its tide below and hung
Frozen fountains of fulsome surf,
As a kittiwake dropped away and flew…
Pigeons and jackdaws and herring gulls, in awe
Of the gannets’ aerodynamics
Were mere extras in the general drone;
A breeze drifted its influence upon the raw
Cliffs where in a hollow, a rocky cleft,
A puffin stood hidden, tarrying alone…

Bempton Cliffs, East Riding…
I didn’t see it at the time but on checking my photos, there, next to a guillemot, was a puffin…
I hadn’t seen one before.
In fact, I still haven’t…
