Padstow 1920: The Screenshots…
The working quay is a greyscale muddle,
Scorning daily life, harsh and dour.
Blackened vessels, as if scorched, huddle,
As they languish tethered,
Often mast against slim mast
To grimy, stone harbour walls,
Fixed in deep Padstow mud, gathered
By the slick low tide which enthrals
And shadowed by incongruous quayside buildings, weathered.
Such a tired plethora of misfits, constructed
To cater to local industries of the past
And not to appeal to the discerning eyes
Of visitors, braving storm or gale
But tenements and dull derelictions…

From old movie footage of Padstow harbour, I took screenshots of three separate views, then whilst there recently, I took photos of today’s typical views of the same scenes in daylight and also at night.
