SOCCER NEWS FROM COVENTRY: THE PARTNERSHIP OF ST FINBARRS FC & AFC BINLEY FOR THE 2022-23 SEASON...

St. Finbarrs Football Club (SFFC) and AFC Binley (AFCB) are delighted to be able to announce that well be working in partnership to form one united football club in time for the start of next season, 2022-23.

SFFC is renowned city wide for its youth football infrastructure, whilst AFCB have an emerging and talented adult football setup. We will be joining forces to create an end-to-end footballing environment to support footballers from our young academy ages all the way through to embarking on adult football.

ST FINBARRS FC...

Our aim is to continue providing the best possible coaching, facilities, development and performance for boys, girls, men and women.

The combination of our clubs will position us as one of the biggest football clubs in the city. However, it will continue to be underpinned by our ‘family’ feel with the intent of having all our players, volunteers and parents enjoy their sporting activities, whatever the results.

This announcement is the result of over twelve months of hard work, discussions, plans and actions, reflecting the significant steps we will be taking. Some of the many things that arose during those discussions were the synergies between our two clubs: an ethos centred around developing our players, coaches and volunteers; a foundation of respect, fair play and honesty and doing the right thing, even when its the hardest option. All of these would have been deal breakers for both sides, were we not aligned!

The joining of our clubs will result in some changes, most notably our name, which will become Coventry Phoenix.

AFC BINLEY BOSS EDWIN GREAVES, WHO EMAILED ME THE TEXT OF THIS ARTICLE...

Wed like to thank all of those who have been involved in getting us to this significant milestone, whilst asking for the support, patience and understanding of you all in helping us to get from today to the bright, exciting and prosperous future we all crave for our young (and older) footballers.

We also know that there will be lots of questions from you all, some of which we can answer and some which still need to be worked through.

We will aim to keep you all updated, either directly or via your teams over the coming weeks and months but what we can absolutely provide reassurance of is that our primary intent is to continue to be a football community that you, your children, wider family and beyond can be proud of and one that will continue to put the interests of you all at the front and centre of our considerations, even if that might not always be immediately obvious.

In the short term, changes will be extremely limited, with the following being some key points we imagine to be of interest:

• Any potential increase in subs will not be impacted by this change and where possible, we will work to avoid any increases.

• Training slots and venues will largely continue as they are at present, so please liaise with your team manager.

• Game pitches will largely continue as they are, so again, please liaise with your team manager.

• Support from St. Finbarrs Social Club will continue for weve worked with them during this process and theyll continue to subsidise some pitch/training slots, where appropriate.

• All teams will be transferring (this is the plan.)

• Our longer term plans are ambitious, including the desire to have our own ground and training facilities.

Finally, this is the start of an exciting new journey for all of us and we will be continuing to work on making the very best of this new partnership, including planning for our future, not just the present.

For now, we wanted to communicate where we are so we can plan openly and transparently for the new season. We hope that you will join us on this exciting journey…
