Keeping The Rump Cool…
The heat seared and despite the shadowy
Copse’s relative protection,
The perspiration flowed.
Water was provided, food scattered about
But there was little expectation
That a pelt clad badger, willowy
And hungry would emerge with snuffling snout.
Yet from one sett a lone badger, inquisitive,
Nudged itself onto the baked,
Stony earth but showed
Caution in its environs to patrol.
And in its reaching it raked
The ground, its jaws aggressive,
With rump lingering cool in its dark, dank hole…

Stayed only for a short time, not expecting to see any badgers reveal themselves, yet one did.
It was wary of a passing car for a moment but stood its ground, until a cyclist, barely audible, sent it racing back into its sett…
It seemed intent upon resting its rump on the coolness of the open hole, whilst feeding though…
Hilarious…
I left then…
