One With Hind Legs Poised & One Scraping Its Belly…
One badger had clearly transferred its weight
Onto its back legs, which were like triggers cocked
And low to the ground,
As if loaded, to enable
A levered push, a thrusting shove,
Ready to flee, launch and propel itself
To escape any threat perceived,
Like an unknown odour, a presence, or the minutest sound…
Another badger then clearly lowered its weight,
Until a dachshund’s short-legged gait seemed mocked,
Low to the ground,
As if it crawled to enable
A fevered pull, a scraping shove,
Ready to drag its paunch to feed itself
And scrape any titbits perceived,
Like stray peanuts hidden in undergrowth, waiting to be found…

One badger was ready to take cover, the other reminded me of someone on a military exercise, crawling beneath a net…
