How Young Men Need To Look On The Street…
Mobile phone concealed cautiously,
Earpiece tightly pressed
Into the ears, whilst conversing,
As if mumbling to oneself, eyes
Glazed, seemingly wavering
Between consciousness and a suppressed
Oblivion, with a haunted expression…
Takeaway coffee clutched preciously,
Carried tightly, prized
By triumphant hand, caressing,
As if cradling an accessory. Eyes
Unfazed, seemingly wandering
Between self consciousness and a repressed
Individualism, with a hunted repression…
The accepted haircut, the hoodie, the beard,
The ugly tattoos upon exposed skin smeared;
The laddish expressions, the vapes, the sneers,
The huddling together, the consumption of beers;
Gripped by social media, the need to keep up with each other
And not be different to the consort, to avoid bullying and bother…
