MOUSEHOLE LANTERNS: a new poem about Mousehole's Christmas lights...

 Mousehole Lanterns…

Helplessly hanging, shivered by the whims of a sea breeze,

Mousehole’s lanterns, like limb-less dancers swayed,

Daubing their pallid reflections onto the sea’s

Creeping tide. Though skewered by restraints, their seasonal hues were displayed…

A vibrancy, a durability,

A jollity, a potency,

As haplessly they hung, wavered by their own fallibility

And controlled by the ocean wind’s rugged intimacy…

The first showing at 5pm of Mousehole’s harbour lanterns and just a few other metal frames containing lights…

More displays will join the throng as the week progresses but the lanterns, viewed from the apartment above 2 Fore Street’s restaurant, looked helpless in the breeze, as they wobbled back and forth…
