Breeze On The Ridge
A breeze flickers about the hut, proud,
Nestling near the corner of a field
But perched upon a ridge high
Above the dale, a wooded gorge steep.
Beyond treetops in many shades of green, gorse
Dabs yellow blotches upon lush hillside grass,
As sheep graze unconcerned
And unseen birds sing in a cacophony…
The sun flickers amongst banks of grey cloud
Muscling in and forcing the light to yield,
Whilst the fresh wind begins to sigh,
Curling about trimmed hedges and ditches deep.
And I shudder, watching with some remorse
As nature forms a formidable window en masse
And the sheep graze undisturbed,
As the birds chorus in natural harmony…

Ridge Lane’s shepherd’s hut, Staithes, North Yorkshire.
April 16th, not quite warm but moments to savour sitting outside on a decking chair, watching and liking my surroundings…
