ONE FLEW AT THE WINDOW...

 One Flew At The Window…

She rose from her feeding and flew

Against the window, stunning

Herself and taking me by surprise,

The collision a gentle thump, her recovery quite

Speedy. Yet shaken, she managed to fly again

And perched upon the wooden garden fence…

But then the evil white cat from next door took its cue,

Leaping onto the fence and running

At the chaffinch, which fluttered down with panicked eyes,

Onto the sentry shed. I scared off the predator with growls contrite,

As the bird settled uneasily in the rain,

Before dropping to the ground, her chirping intense…

She remained there and I kept her in view,

Her well hidden predicament though was concerning,

For the shock of the impact she had been unable to disguise.

Eventually however, she regained the strength to take flight

Towards the feeders, still repeating her forlorn refrain.

She and I had seemingly shared those moments of suspense…

The bird struck the window with a thump but although it was quickly able to fly, it certainly needed recovery time.

The cat, a white, ghostly, evil looking creature suddenly appeared next to the chaffinch on the fence but my door handle rattling and bellowed growls saw it off.

It really doesn’t like me.

The feeling is totally mutual…

The chaffinch had dropped onto the small shed’s roof, then onto the ground, smartly hidden next to the house wall.

A while later, to my relief, she managed to fly back onto the fence and then onto the feeder…
