WATCHING THE CELANDINES NEAR THE SETTS... (Badger watching at Temple Balsall...)

 Watching The Celandines Near The Setts…



Those rich, yellow flowers had begun to push through

The damp earth inside the woodland. And daylight

Lasted longer,

Although the orange sunset brought about 

A sudden darkening, as if a switch

Had been flicked

Because the evening was imminent and due…


A small badger cub began to struggle through

From its sodden hole in the copse. And in poor light

Tarried longer,

Although dusk’s onset brought about

A nervous fidgeting, then a switch

Was clearly flicked,

For humanity was detected, its threat undue…

Celandines had begun to show yellow in the copse, as one badger cub tentatively showed too. 


It feasted for a moment, then disappeared, as did any real semblance of light…
