SURF & FOG... (The new poem inspired by Frederick Judd Waugh's 1910 painting...)

 Surf & Fog…

(Inspired by Frederick Judd Waugh’s painting of Monhegan, Maine, 1910…)

Slim spume-trails slither through narrow, angled

Channels upon a crude, rocky outcrop of glistening,

Slick, harsh and sinuous black slate,

Bearing the tide’s disparate, inconsistent affray.

Froth spews from the ocean’s violent uproar,

Thrusting wild breakers, viciously entangled

In their persistence and irresistible hastening.

The wild, stormy surges rise, roar and berate,

Like cream out of the dim grey fog spilling astray

In the chaos of a tumultuous furore…
