Pre-season game:
Coventry Colliery 1-3 AFC Solihull...
The Mowdog's thoughts...
This was a well contested match, which was started better by visitors AFC, who took an early lead courtesy of Saleh's close range header from a corner. The hosts regained parity with their first moment of threat, Ascroft converting John's right-flank centre, as the Solihull 'keeper and a defender baulked each other.
A clearance by home defender Agbo, he of the enormously long throw-ins, was collected by AFC's Saleh and he moved into the 18 yard box to slot home a low drive .
Many second period substitutions and disruptions led to Coventry missing a few chances and on one occasion, AFC survived a goalmouth scramble in which their 'keeper kept his team ahead. He made another couple of decent saves too but when Solihull were awarded a free-kick, replacement O'Connor rose to nod the ball just inside the right pole to confirm the victory in the closing moments.
Thanks to Rhys Lyons, the Colliery manager for providing me with his players' names and numbers for my commentary!
