Pre-season:
Kenilworth Sporting 0-2 Rugby Borough…
The Mowdog’s thoughts…
Boro dominated the possession throughout and it was therefore a surprise but also credit to the Sporting defence, that the higher ranked guests managed to score only twice.
Good passing, quickness of movement and a good deal of accuracy added up to a very smart showing by Rugby but Kenilworth showed grit and determination against heavy odds on a warm evening in Gypsy Lane.
I had no names of players to work with during my commentary but certainly Boro’s 8, 11, 10, 20 and 12 took the eye constantly, although to be fair, all of their squad members looked sharp and accustomed to their style of play.
The goals were scored by 2 and 11 in the opening period but Boro’s control, pace and effort were impressive so early in July.
This was an enjoyable workout to witness and was likely pleasing for both sets of coaches, albeit for very different reasons…
