EARLY SEPTEMBER BADGERS... (My new poem about the Temple Balsall badgers + 12 images...)

 Early September Badgers…

Early autumn crinkled, caramel coloured

Leaves had begun to fall upon the copse floor,

Yet there was no perceivable breeze.

Shrubs, weeds and grasses had begun to wilt

Weakly and the dark, damp earth was littered

By lumps of broken bricks and chunks of stone,

Dragged by housekeeping badgers from setts…

Light lingered, as up to five brocks hovered

Near their safe, clawed out holes, as daylight wore

Towards a placid dusk with silent ease.

Eager feeding soon began by five muscled, strongly built

Mammals, despite cracking twigs and the revving drone

Of distant vehicles. Wild animals, grazing like tame pets…
