Breaking Water…
(Inspired by Sue Nichol’s painting of Staithes…)
The extremity of the breakwater explodes, as if shelled
By a barrage at the Somme in World War One,
Its fiery edges turning a wrathful tide into a burning,
Spurning, churning conflagration.
The handrails and sea-swept harbour wall lie quelled
By the monstrous incursion, designed to stun,
Its random bursts urging a turbulent tide into a purging, converging, revenging devastation…

I know Staithes quite well and my three images show the harbour in calmer weather…
