MOUSEHOLE, 1947... (My poem about Mousehole, Cornwall, inspired by artist William Wilson...)

 Mousehole 1947…

There is a perceptible calm and mild clarity

About Mousehole, gleaming in post-war morning silence.

Its dwellings jostle, forming a huddled mosaic

Which rises from the quay and the small boats moored

Upon pallid sand or in the shallows’ shimmering reflections…

Resting upon the south cliff harbour wall, the Lobster Pot’s vanity

Extends to its white balcony and sky blue iridescence,

Above the quay’s granite boulders, heavy and archaic.

The village cluster clamours for the sun, its legacy assured,

Nestling in Mounts Bay, beautiful in its own imperfections…

A lovely, bright painting from 1947 by artist William Wilson.

I stayed in what was once the Lobster Pot in December 2023 and again in 2024, a fine Grade II listed building…

Superb position over the harbour…
