HARRIER RACES INLAND... (My new poem about watching a Marsh Harrier at Blakeney, Norfolk, 19th March 2025...)

 Harrier Races Inland…

On a causeway parallel to the distant stony North Sea shoreline,

I watched a Little Ringed Plover bustle in fussy, hurried style

Along the edge of a shallow pool, its yellow eye rings gleaming

In the surprisingly warm mid-March sunlight

Across Norfolk’s curious, coarse and reedy marshland…

Suddenly, a large predatory bird flew over my head in a grand

Display of languid, powerful, intimidating flight,

Its wingspan gliding and sparkling, the feathers streaming

In a fanned array of white and charcoal grey, its guile

Apparent as it swooped and soared with precision fine…

19th March 2025…

Seeing a Marsh Harrier rise over me on the marshes at Blakeney, Norfolk, moments after photographing a Little Ringed Plover on the ground nearby…
